KRISTIAN JOERGENSEN SETS NEW RECORD, CRISTINE MONTUYA DELIVERS A COME FROM BEHIND WIN.
It was a breakaway win for Kristian Joergensen as he showed sheer dominance and blazed through the rugged terrain of the SIERRA MADRE TRAIL ULTRA 75 2024. Shattering last year’s record and setting the bar higher, he finished the race with an astonishing time of 09:24:48 – a new time to beat.
Last year’s third placer Angelo Maynard Encornal climbed a step up and settled for 2nd place.
Jensen Lloyd Pasaforte, Jomarc Ferrer, and John Ivan Zonio rounded out the top five in the men’s division finishing in 3rd, 4th and 5th place.
Ferrer bounced back big time from last year’s performance while Zonio scored his 2nd podium finish for SMTU 75.
In the women’s division, Cristine Montuya navigated the demanding trail with precision and resilience as she overpowered her rivals and clinched a darkhorse win againts the early favorites.
Top contenders Cecille Wael, Mary Joy Sumanda, and Ann Jillian Pulanco were exchanging leads almost all throughout the race. But Montuya’s commanding performance ultimately secured her the coveted title.
Wael finished in 2nd place while Sumanda, Pulanco and Shally Yuson followed in 3rd, 4th and 5th place.
This is Cecille Wael’s 2nd podium finish for SMTU 75 as she clinched the 2nd spot as well in the 2022 edition. On the other hand, consistency is what Ann Jillian Pulanco brings to the table as this is her 3rd consecutive podium placement for SMTU 75. She finished 4th in 2022 and was hailed as champion in 2023.
This year’s edition also highlighted the first ever relay category with Jerrol Coprada and Andy Borras finishing as overall champions.
